The Department of Gene Technology was established in the
year 2000 with the introduction of a Two Year Post-Graduate
Program (M.Sc. Gene Technology). The Department has well furnished
classrooms, laboratories, equipments and all necessary audio-visual
aids. The curriculum of the Post-Graduate Program is of a
high standard and matches well with that of any institute
offering a similar courses in the country. Emphasis has been
laid on thorough practical training to every student. The
courses are regularly updated in order to maintain excellence
in this highly competitive area of scientific development.
Gene Technology is one of the new frontiers of Biological
Sciences. It deals with Genetic Engineering or Recombinant
DNA Technology, which has at its core the process of gene
cloning. Genetic engineering has its applications in multidisciplinary
fields like medicine, agriculture, veterinary science and
Industries like vaccine-production, gene therapy, production
of transgenic animals and plants, beverages, milk products,
etc…The examination system involves regular internal
evaluation with sufficient credits for lab sessions, seminars
and aptitude for learning.
