The institution is located on National Highways 210 at a
distance of 6kms from Pudukkottai, the headquarters of Pudukkottai
District in a pleasant ambience on the southern bank of river
Vellar, on a campus of a 50 acres of land.
Pudukkottai is connected by Road and Rail
to any part of the Country and is on Tiruchirappalli –
Rameswaram route. Tiruchirappalli is the nearest airport at
a distance of 50 kilometres.
Started in 1994 as an Under Graduate Institution with just
two courses (B.Sc. Computer Science and B.Sc. Biochemistry),
48 students and 7 teachers in a very modest building in Pudukkottai
town, the J.J. College of Arts and Science has developed into
one of the premier institutions of higher learning in the
state with an inter-state and international student profile
and a wide variety of UG, PG and Research Programmes.
At present the College has 3187 students
and 173 staff within its fold. It offers 13 UG, 17 P.G. 10
M.Phil., 4 Ph.D., programmes, 2 PG-Diploma Courses and One
Certificate Course and wide variety of inter-disciplinary
and extra-disciplinary courses under the Choice Based Credit
System.
It is affiliated to Bharathidasan University
and is fast emerging as Numero Uno among the self-financing
colleges under the jurisdiction of the University.The campus
breathes a rare academic and co-curricular ambience conducive
to teaching-learning and research. In 2003 the College gained
the distinction of being accredited by the National Assessment
and Accreditation Council, Bangalore at the B++ level –
the first self-financing college in the Bharathidasan University
region to gain this grade and honour.
Apart from the College buildings and the Hostel buildings
for Men and Women, the other facilities for the students available
inside the campus include a Health Centre, Post Office, ATM
Counter of two banks, Canteen, Visitors Guest House etc.
