Chemistry is truly the “central
science”. It is the science of the molecular scale, and
it is at the molecular level where major advances are being made
in many diverse areas such as medicine, drugs, nanaotechnology,
new materials and the environment. A sound knowledge of Chemistry
is required to understand most other areas of science, and this
is why the study of Chemistry is either compulsory or recommended
by many other disciplines in the University.
|
| |
| Chemistry opens the door for many careers because
training in Chemistry is essential for many positions in industry,
is highly desirable for science teaching, and is useful for careers
in Public Service and Management. Both the public and the private
sectors increasingly draw their management echelons from chemistry
graduates. |
|
The Department of Chemistry is one of the
largest in the affiliated colleges of Bharathidasan University,
Tiruchirappalli and is a recognized center of excellence in post-graduate
teaching. Currently around 80 new post-graduate students are admitted
each year and there are about 140 postgraduates and research students
within the Department. With an academic staff of 10, we ensure
that we can offer a very wide range of research interests, and
this, in turn, means that the subject is taught by enthusiastic
experts in their field. |
